• 5 weekends of winter training sessions began on Feb. 26 at the Sportsplex.

This week the OCSB cancelled gym permits until the end of March, and the OCDSB cancelled permits until the end of June, so regular basketball programming during this season is unlikely.

However, the NBBA has arranged access on weekends to the Nepean Sportsplex, Carleton University (Norm Fenn Gym), and Redeemer Christian School, and is pleased to announce that weekly winter training sessions for competitive, recreational and development players will start in January and run through March in two 6-week blocks.

We will follow public health and OBA guidelines so that players can return to the courts safely. The OBA continues to be in Phase 3 of its return to play guidelines, under which teams can have non-contact indoor practices. Passing to teammates is permitted but not drills that would likely result in physical contact, including defence (e.g., no scrimmages). Players must complete an online OBA Assumption of Risk Waiver Form.

Based on the current public health environment,

  • training sessions will be limited to 15 players and no spectators,
  • physical distancing of at least 2 metres will apply,
  • everyone will wear a mask, unless a player needs to temporarily remove their mask to engage in a training activity (the NBBA encourages that masks be left on at all times).

We are currently finalizing the schedule and fees for training sessions, and will then start player registration and provide more information on health protocols.
