Nepean Basketball is becoming “Verified” under the Canada Basketball Verification Program, which is a set of best practices to enhance the delivery of basketball across Canada. The program integrates important aspects of coaching, Safe Sport, and organizational leadership. Players, parents, coaches and others can have confidence that a “Verified” Nepean Basketball Association aligns with those best practices.

The Verification Program is founded on three pillars of success:

      1. Safe Sport & EDI (Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion)
        • Awareness and action to ensure sport is safe and inclusive. This includes reporting maltreatment of players, background screening, and social issues such as diversity, inclusion, gender equity, and assisting players with financial barriers to participation. Player protection also includes codes of conduct, the Rule of Two, concussion policy, and Emergency Action Plans.
      2. Technical Skills
        • Addresses on-court programming, and ensures alignment of player and coaching pathways. This includes developmentally-appropriate skills for players, coach education, and overall Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD).
        • Canada Basketball’s Coach Education Pathway is based on the LTAD Model. The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) provides standardized sport education to coaches. Each province/territory is responsible for setting the coach education requirements for basketball.
      3. Governance & Administration
        • The policies, processes, systems, and controls by which the organization is run. In general, this provides strategic leadership and decision-making to achieve the vision of the organization, while managing staff, volunteers, and financial resources. All Verified organizations will be supported by a foundation of proper governance.

Nepean has completed and committed to all required verification standards, what remains is to finish providing a list of our coaches with their NCCP#s and programs they coach. Verification standards include:
